Abstract: Mapping Previous HitGeologistsNext Hit, Not Just Geology, and Why That Is Important

By

Charles Fried
BP

Gulf Coast hurricanes in 2005 dramatically illustrated the need to map the employee base in the path of the storms. A large percentage of the American Association of Petroleum Previous HitGeologistsNext Hit membership lives along the storm-prone Gulf of Mexico. The skills and tools used for mapping geology can also be used to map the location of Previous HitgeologistsTop. This is useful to insure business continuity during storm events and has the added benefit of potentially assisting people in need. As with any mapping exercise, some of the same challenges (data quality, for example) are issues. These techniques have potential application in areas beyond the Gulf of Mexico, as incidents can occur in other geographic regions inhabited by the petroleum company workforce.
