Title: Microflora of Oil Waters and Oil-Bearing Formations and Biochemical Processes Caused by It

Author(s): T. L. Ginsburg-Karagitscheva (2)

Abstract:

The examination and analysis of more than 100 samples collected from oil wells and sources of sulphurous springs in various oil regions (Apsheron, Saliany, Grozny, Naphtalan) showed the presence of certain groups of micro organisms, characteristic for pools charged with hydrosulphurous fermentation. This microflora of oil waters and oil-bearing formations is found experimentally to produce combustible gases. The results of the experiments suggest that these biochemical processes observed under laboratory conditions are the same processes active on a vast scale in the origin of natural gas and petroleum.
