Title: Application of X-ray Crystal Analysis to a Problem of Petroleum Geology

Author(s): D. H. Reynolds (2), Eldon A. Means (3), Lindsey G. Morgan (4)

Abstract:

The powder method of X-ray analysis of mineral mixtures has been applied to selected drill samples Previous HitfromNext Hit several geological formations of some western Kansas oil wells. The Previous HitdiffractionNext Hit patterns obtained were interpreted to show the individual minerals present, and the relative abundance of each, in the drill cuttings.

The data for wells rather widely separated geographically show a distinct correlation between the type X-ray Previous HitdiffractionNext Hit pattern obtained and the member of the formation Previous HitfromNext Hit which the sample was obtained.

A great possible usefulness of the method to petroleum geology is indicated.
