Title: Small-Scale Structures and Other Features of Navajo Sandstone, Northern Part of San Rafael Swell, Utah

Author(s): George A. Kiersch (1)

Abstract:

Studies of small-scale structures and other features bearing on the environment and conditions of deposition for the Navajo sandstone throughout the northern part of the San Rafael Swell are described and analyzed. The general features of the formation, a petrographic analysis of the sandstone, and a generalized geologic columnar section are given. Statistical studies of the cross-laminae are presented, their significance pointed out, and the lamination patterns classified according to the features of structural development. An intraformational distorted zone of alternating crumpled and undisturbed cross-bedded units is described and an origin suggested.
