Title: Developments in Texas Panhandle in 1949

Author(s): Paul H. Horn (2)

Abstract:

The Texas Panhandle district includes the twenty-six northwest counties of Texas.

Drilling activities continued to increase over preceding years. There was a total of 827 wells drilled; 91.3 per cent were successful. Production was high with nearly 32 million barrels of oil and more than 882 billion cubic feet of gas produced during the year.

There were 26 exploratory wells, drilled, of which 5 reached the basement complex. Two of the exploratory wells discovered oil and two discovered gas.

Exploration and leasing activities were high in the northeastern and southern parts with promise of much activity for 1950.
