Title: Developments in New York in 1954

Author(s): James W. Wiggins (2)

Abstract:

Two wells were completed in the Oriskany gas-sand area and no new production was discovered. Medina sandstone drilling totaled 56 wells; three-quarters of the number were for gas storage. There were 399 development oil wells drilled during 1954, and the daily average for pipeline runs amounted to 8,918 barrels. Two unsuccessful shallow wildcat wells were drilled, and one exploratory test to the Upper Cambrian was completed without success. Three important wildcat wells were drilling. Three storage wells were completed to the salt beds for storage of liquid propane gas. Two more Oriskany gas fields were scheduled for storage development. Six reports were published pertaining to New York State stratigraphy, and 6 manuscripts are in preparation. The United States Geological urvey is currently geologically mapping four quadrangles and the State Geological Survey six quadrangles in western New York. There was no known geophysical activity.
