Abstract:
Drilling activity in North Louisiana increased 53 per cent in 1954 as compared with 1953 due largely to a stimulated development program in the Caddo-Pine Island area. A slight increase in drilling activity in Arkansas was also experienced.
A total of 286 exploratory wells were drilled of which 43 were successful as compared to 39 exploratory successes in 1953. However, of the 43 there were 35 successes or 81 per cent credited to North Louisiana while in 1953 there were only 20 of the 39 successes or 51 per cent credited to North Louisiana.
The exploratory drilling in this area resulted in 16 new-field discoveries in North Louisiana and 6 new-field discoveries in Arkansas.
Arkansas had an increase of 62 per cent in geophysical activity in 1954 as compared with 1953 with 513 crew-weeks worked; North Louisiana experienced a decrease of 38 per cent with 335 crew-weeks worked.
