Title: Developments in Montana, North Dakota and South Dakota in 1956

Author(s): Steven H. Harris (2), Herbert D. Hadley (3)

Abstract:

Exploration drilling in Montana and North Dakota increased appreciably and 31 significant wildcat discoveries were completed. Production continued to rise as a result of rapid development of the region's major fields.

New formation discoveries in the Silurian, Kibbey (Mississippian), Piper (Jurassic), Heath (Mississippian), Devonian, and Ordovician emphasize the area's undeveloped potentialities.

Significant discoveries and impressive success ratios coupled with forthcoming expiration of many lease blocks should result in substantial increases in drilling during 1957.
