Title: Bay Sainte Elaine Oil Field, Southern Louisiana

Author(s): Stephen J. Schneider (2)

Abstract:

The interpreted structure and geologic history of the Bay Sainte Elaine field, southern Terrebonne Parish, Louisiana, are the result of a detailed analysis and correlation of electric logs and the use of scout cards. The structure is that of a piercement-type salt dome exhibiting radial faulting on all but the northwest, southeast, and east flanks of the structure. Evidence of major faulting, and depositional characteristics during the interval between the BA and BB1 times (upper Miocene), seem to indicate that it was the period of maximum salt growth. Major hydrocarbon accumulation probably took place in late Miocene or early Pliocene time.
