Title: Oil and Gas Developments in Ohio in 1961

Author(s): Robert L. Alkerie (2), Bernard A. Floto (2), Allan W. Johnson (3)

Abstract:

Eighty-eight more wells were completed this year than in 1960 and another new high was established in sub-Trenton tests. However, again this year a deline is noted in gas well completions.

Exploratory tests totaled 86, of which 25 were successful and 61 failures. Highlighting the exploratory drilling is the testing of the deeper sediments. A new sub-Trenton oil field has been discovered in Morrow County and subsequent producers in Canaan and Cardington Townships have encouraged testing the general area. Six basement tests were drilled, one of which in Adams Township, Guernsey County, totaled 8,602 ft., setting a new depth record for the state. Continued activity in exploring these deeper sediments is anticipated in the coming year.
