Author(s): Emmett R. Adams (2), David C. Davis (3)

Abstract:

Drilling in the southeastern states declined in 1961; 690 wells were drilled as compared with 757 in 1960, a decrease of 9%. The most active state was Mississippi. The 12 new-field discoveries were in this state; of these, 6 were Lower Cretaceous fields, 4 Lower Tuscaloosa fields, 1 Wilcox field, and 1 Sparta field.

Of the 48 wells drilled in Alabama, 36 were developed wells in Citronelle field.

Nine dry tests were drilled in Florida and 9 in Georgia.
