Title: Structure of Morton Salt Company Mine, Weeks Island Salt Dome, Louisiana

Author(s): Donald H. Kupfer (2)

Abstract:

Mapping of the internal structure of the salt in the Morton Salt Company's Weeks Island Mine, Louisiana, has confirmed and somewhat expanded the comprehensive pioneer observations of Balk at Grand Saline, Texas. Bedding has been drag-folded, stretched into long vertical pipe-like bodies, and isoclinally refolded, giving complex fold patterns in plan view. A type of graded bedding is recognized, allowing potential differentiation of anticlines and synclines.
