Title: Developments in Texas and Oklahoma Panhandles in 1963

Author(s): Jerry M. Shelby (2)

Abstract:

Significant developments in Wheeler County, Texas helped offset the fact that exploratory drilling was down 30% from last year. Geophysical activity increased 32%, whereas development drilling and leasing activity remained nearly static.

In the Anadarko basin, the Pan American Petroleum Corporation opened the Mobeetie (Douglas) field with an important gas discovery, and the Phillips Petroleum Company has an indicated major discovery at its No. 1 Carwile "A," drilled to a record depth for the Panhandle District of 17,702 ft. Both wells are located in northwestern Wheeler County.

Exploratory drilling in 1964 is expected to increase at the expense of development activity and geophysical operations, while leasing activity should remain relatively unchanged.
