Title: Developments in West Coast Area in 1963

Abstract:

Washington: Four unsuccessful exploratory wells were drilled. Total exploratory footage was 21,730.

Oregon: One unsuccessful exploratory well was drilled for a total of 6,336 ft.

California: Four hundred and forty-one exploratory wells were drilled, 24 more than in 1962. Total exploratory footage was 2,397,505, a decrease of 74,436 ft. from 1962. The average depth per well was 5,437 ft. vs. 5,928 ft. in 1962. Ten new fields, 5 oil and 5 gas; and 25 pools, 18 oil and 7 gas were discovered. Exploration was 14.5% and 11.1% successful as to wells and footage, respectively, compared with 12.0% and 12.6% in 1962. Total number of well completions, including development wells, were 2,850, up 125 from 1962. Crude oil production was 300 million bbls., up 5 million or 1.7% over 1962. Natural gas production was 646 billion CF and production of natural gas liquids was 26.4 million bbls. Basement was reached in 31 unsuccessful exploratory wells. There were 33 active explora ory wells at the end of 1963.
