Title: Developments in Michigan in 1964

Author(s): R. E. Ives, G. D. Ells (2)

Abstract:

The number of exploratory and development well completions declined from the previous year. Nearly all the difference resulted from fewer development well completions. Most of the drilling activity was in the Eastern District; most Niagaran reef exploration was centered in the St. Clair-Macomb County area.

Total drilled footage was 1,795,835 feet. This may be classified as 654,224 feet exploratory, 924,584 feet development, and 217,027 feet service wells. Both oil and gas production were down slightly: 15,601,239 bbls. of oil and 31,855,052 Mcf of gas were produced. Geophysical exploration remained at about the same level as in 1963. Leasing activity and the amount of undeveloped acreage under lease decreased during 1964.
