Title: Developments in North-Central Texas in 1964

Author(s): Albert G. Wells, Jr. (2)

Abstract:

North-Central Texas is District 14, composed of Texas Railroad Commission Districts 7-B and 9. The number of wells drilled during 1964 in this area was 3,582, compared with 4,210 in 1963, a decrease of 15 per cent. Successful exploratory wells numbered 173, compared with 219 in 1963. Production was down 935,500 barrels, but was 11.5 per cent of the State total. Shallow reservoirs in several counties make the district attractive to independents and to a few majors. The use of seismic information for selecting drilling sites, except in areas of shallow production, either increased or remained constant during 1964.
