Title: Developments in West Texas and Southeastern New Mexico in 1965

Author(s): Ewald A. Wagner (2)

Abstract:

The total number of wells drilled in 1965 in the West Texas-Southeastern New Mexico area declined 9% from 1964. The success ratio increased slightly, as did the total number of barrels of oil produced. Fields of significant size, both shallow and deep, were discovered in mature and semi-mature provinces, necessitating a new look at old information. Development drilling in deep fields along the eastern edge of the Delaware basin progressed rapidly throughout the year. The general exploration activity was focused on the established deep trends of the Delaware and Val Verde basins, along which approximately 55,700 acres of Texas University land was leased.
