Title: Developments in North-Central Texas in 1966

Author(s): Laurence S. Cooke (2)

Abstract:

Drilling operations declined 18% to 2,844 wells during 1966, increasing the downward trend in north-central Texas. This decline was primarily the result of the decrease in development drilling; 620 less wells were drilled than in 1965. Exploratory drilling continued essentially at the same level, 704 tests compared to 730 in 1965. Production decreased 1,097,000 bbls., from 10.7% to 9.7% of the state total. A new "hot" area developed in the northwest part of the Fort Worth basin. However, the most significant new discoveries continued to be made in the Hardeman basin.
