Title: Developments in Upper Gulf Coast of Texas in 1966

Author(s): Thomas G. Clark (2), Alan R. McGrew (2)

Abstract:

Exploratory drilling in Railroad Commission District 3 increased, but significant discoveries decreased. The discovery "success" percentage was 18. A total of 667 development wells was drilled. Of 409 producers, 1 of every 6 was a gas well. The success ratio was 1:15, and the success percentage 61. Wildcat drilling increased in the Miocene, Frio, and Yegua trends. The Frio trend continued to be the main objective, followed by the Yegua. The Wilcox and Yegua trends led in crew-weeks of seismic activity. Major seismic work in the offshore areas was completed in June. As a result of this, increased drilling is expected.
