Title: Glacial-Like "Striated Floor" Originated by Debris-Laden Torrential Water Flows

Author(s): Horacio J. Harrington (2)

Abstract:

A striated block of rhyolitic tuff, embedded in the alluvium of the Quebrada de Tambores, Atacama Desert, Chile, is described. The location of the block and the characteristics of the markings leave little doubt that the glacial-like striation is due to the rasping action of debris carried by torrential water floods.
