Title: Petroleum Developments in Australia in 1977

Author(s): E. F. Durkee (2)

Abstract:

Exploration and development drilling remained at a low level in 1977 in Australia. Seismic activity increased slightly, and an omen of increased activity in future years was the issuance of several new exploration permit areas in several states. There were 17 wildcats and 25 development wells completed and/or commenced. Nearly all of the development activity was confined to the drilling of gas wells Cooper basin, South Australia. One exploration highlight, also in South Australia, was the recovery of oil in "noncommercial" quantities from Jurassic strata in the relatively untested Pedirka basin. Australia's production in 1977 averaged about 420,300 BOPD and 736 MMCFGD.
