Title: Developments in Louisiana Gulf Coast Onshore in 1979

Abstract:

Thirty-eight parishes are included in the South Louisiana Onshore district covered by this report.

A total of 1,241 wells was drilled in the district during 1979. Wildcat wells accounted for 213 of the total with a success ratio of 1:9.1. Exploratory wells accounted for 243 of the total with a success ratio of 1:2.5. Field or development wells accounted for 785 of the total with a success ratio of 1.3:1. On a percentage basis, 10% of all wildcat wells became producers, 28% of all exploratory wells became producers, and 58% of all field or development wells became producers. Twenty-one new discoveries were made in 1979, a decrease of 1 from the 22 reported for 1978. In 1977, 18 new discoveries were made and, in 1976 only 9.

Total onshore geophysical activity in the 38 parishes during 1979 was 1,325 crew-weeks. A total of 1,259 crew-weeks was reported for 1978 and a total of 1,128 crew-weeks was reported for 1977.

Leasing in the onshore South Louisiana district during 1979 amounted to 989,630 acres, a decrease of 196,372 acres compared with 1,186,002 acres leased in 1978. During 1977, 1,599,655 acres were leased and, during 1976, 1,754,660 acres.
