Title: Oil and Gas Developments in Louisiana Gulf Coast Offshore in 1982

Abstract:

In offshore Louisiana in 1982, 1,033 wells were drilled, an increase of 49 from 1981. The overall success rate decreased 2.1% from 1981. The success rate for wildcats increased to 26.7%, with 51 new-field discoveries. The success rate for new-pool and outpost drilling decreased to 55.6%, with 40 discoveries.

In Federal OCS Sale 67, held February 9, 1982, 51 tracts, encompassing 258,040 acres in offshore Louisiana, were leased for bonuses totaling $582 million. In Federal OCS Sale 69, held November 17, 1982, 38 tracts, encompassing 185,546 acres in offshore Louisiana, were leased for bonuses totaling $452 million.

Geophysical activity increased to a record 1,404 crew-weeks in 1982.
