Title: Ion Microprobe Imaging as a Tool for Elucidating Waterflood Reactions

Author(s): S. C. Elphick, B. T. Ngwenya, G. B. Shimmield (2)

Abstract:

The technique of secondary ion imaging used in ion microprobe studies has been applied to conclusively identify experimentally induced diagenetic changes in reservoir analog sandstones. This technique was applied by doping the aqueous pore fluid with 18O as an isotopic tracer and imaging the experimentally labeled reaction precipitates.
