Thompson are much appreciated. Thanks are also due Neil Hurley for several manuscript
corrections and Don Pierini for preparing Figure 2. At the request of Mitra and Mount, I
did a cursory review (not as an AAPG associated editor) of an early draft of their paper
in the spring of 1997. Not all of the problems discussed here were uncovered in that
review, but most of my objections to their analysis of foreland basement-involved
structures were made known to them.
