Western Canadian Givetian

P. S. Warren, C. R. Stelck

ABSTRACT

The Givetian (upper Middle Devonian) Stage of Western Canada is characterized by a succession of fifteen discrete Stringocephalids. The gross thickness of the Givetian Stage is in excess of 1500 feet in parts of Western Canada. The Ramparts Limestone, the older Winnepegosan Dolomite and the younger Presqu'ile Dolomite, all bearing Stringocephalus, represent three distinct horizons.
