Stratigraphy of Bearpaw Formation of Southern Alberta

F. G. Lines

ABSTRACT

A note of explanation is necessary with regard to publication of this paper by the late Fred Lines. It was first presented at a meeting of the Alberta Society of Petroleum Geologists in 1947. At that time no media existed for the publication of papers on local geology, and consequently the contribution was never published. Nevertheless, the work still stands as the most detailed stratigrahic breakdown of the Bearpaw Formation yet made. Furthermore, two member names, the Manyberries and the Medicine Lodge, were introduced in this paper, and have been accepted in Alberta stratigraphy despite the lack of publication. For these reasons we feel that the paper still merits publication after such a long interval. In addition, we wish to publish it as a tribute to a man who taught the fundamentals of stratigraphy and subsurface geology to many young geologists, and who contributed a great deal to the early growth of the Alberta Society of Petroleum Geologists.

Although some minor changes have been made by M. S. Stanton, California Standard Co., and by the editors, the paper is substantially unaltered from the original.
