Abstract
Abstracts of Papers: Jointing of Boulders Caused by Flowing Ice
At four different localities in southwestern Saskatchewan it can be shown that boulders, now part of an unconsolidated deposit, are fractured, presumably when yielding to stresses exerted by a flowing glacier. The stratified drift, of which the boulders are a part, is believed to have been cemented by interstitial ice when deformation took place.
A study of the mechanical behavior of materials under low temperatures, small stresses operative during a long interval of time, and other conditions assumed to have existed during Pleistocene glaciation, is called for.
