Influence of Compaction on Stratigraphic Analyses

C. E. B. Conybeare

ABSTRACT

This paper concerns stratigraphic problems involving correlation of sections formed under conditions of variable rates of sedimentation, and subjected to differential compaction. Based on empirical data, tables and graphs can be constructed for determining equivalent rock-time units in two or more sections. Examples are given to illustrate application of this method to stratigraphic problems involving reconstruction of sedimentological and paleogeographical environments.
