Some Devonian Trilobites of the Argentine Precordillera

Bruno A. J. Baldis

Abstract

Trilobites from the Talacasto and Chavela Formations of the Precordillera have been studied. Bainella sanjuanina is a new species from the Talacasto Formation. Metacryphaeus argentina, a new species from the Chavela Formation, was found associated with Bouleia dagincourti (Kozlowski), Cryphaeoides rostratus (Kozlowski), and Acanthopyge ballivianii (Kozlowski). This last species is redescribed from well preserved material.

The forms described from the Chavela Formation allow correlation with the Dipleura dekayii and A. ballivianii Zones of Bolivia. Thus the Chavela Formation is Middle Devonian.
