Preliminary Study on Paleomagnetism of the Lower-Middle Devonian Boundary Beds from Guangxi, South China

H. Liu, J. Wang, S. Bai, Z. Bai

Abstract

Samples of the Lower-Middle Devonian boundary beds from Guangxi were determined by superconducting magnetometer for paleomagnetism research. The determination reveals that between Early and Middle Devonian times there was no geomagnetic polarity reversal. The mean geomagnetic declination was 189.7° and the mean inclination was 1.2°. These values suggest that the paleogeographic setting of South China was at the equator. This suggestion coincides well with the conclusion based on paleontology.
