Stratigraphic and Paleobiogeographic Aspects of Devonian Bivalves of China

Renjie Zhang

Abstract

The distribution, composition and other features of Devonian bivalves of China are summarized. Fifteen Devonian bivalve assemblages are proposed. The bivalve paleobiogeographic provinces of the South China Region are the best known and most well defined. In addition four Devonian marine bivalve communities are recognized. These comprise three shallow water, near shore to shelf communities and one deep water community. The life-habits of the bivalves are also briefly discussed.
