Review of Oil Exploration in Nordegg Area

Grant G. Pitcher

Abstract

The development of the oil industry within the Nordegg area has been broken down into two stages; namely, the “Early Stage”, and the “Present Stage”. The “Early Stage” includes that period of time up to 1944 when the mapping of surface structures was the only source for interpretation. The “Present Stage” began with the introduction of seismic exploration in the summer of 1944, and with the popularization of the theory of folded faults which together helped in the interpretation at depth. Twenty wells have been located within the area, two of which are potential producers. A brief history is given on each well along with the significant tests.
