Virgo Keg River EEE Pool

Bill Fisher

Abstract

Misleading results may occur if core analyses are used without a visual examination of the core. Measurements of porosity may be too high because of bitumen in the core that can be removed during normal cleaning procedures. In other cores porosity measurements could be low if the core is contaminated with drilling mud and lost circulation material. Measurements of permeability can be misleading in vugular core. Special tests such as relative permeability measurements may not be representative because of the heterogeneous nature of the rock. The core from the Virgo Keg River EEE Pool is used to illustrate how visual examination of a core can result in a more accurate description of the reservoir. Studies of future performance will be more accurate and therefore minimize costs of development.
