Tidal Clastic/Carbonate Deposits - Carboniferous Kiskatinaw Formation, Alberta, and a Holocene Analogue - Shark Bay, Western Australia

J. E. Barclay, G. R. Davies

Abstract

This paper accompanies a display of drill cores from the Kiskatinaw Formation with sediments interpreted as tidal deposits. Sandstones in the lower Kiskatinaw form important gas reservoirs and numerous drill cores were available for this subsurface study. This paper describes main lithofacies and includes brief comments on depositional interpretations. A Holocene depositional setting in Western Australia is presented as a possible analogue to some Kiskatinaw facies.
