Le Devonien de la Montagne Noire (France)

Jacques Avias, Christian Joseph, the Exploration Staff at ERAP

Abstract

The Devonian of the Montagne Noire has been studied in detail both from the stratigraphic and sedimentological point of view during the past few years because of petroleum exploration.

Conodont determinations have enabled several structures to be defined (e.g. Coumiac thrust sheets).

The most important result for subsequent work has been the establishment of a number of type lithofacies for all of the Devonian and the study of their regional variations.

A reduced Devonian section (Combe Rolland) was established and its autochtonous interpretation can be questioned.

All these works should enable the study of the Montagne Noire to continue with the aid of accurate stratigraphic and sedimentological suites for the Devonian.
