Applications and Interpretation of Radioactivity Logs in Southern Louisiana Miocene Sands

ABSTRACT

The various applications of radioactivity well logging with representative examples are presented. They include well depth measurement corrections, location of oil and gas contacts, tracer studies of cement operations, identification of formations missed by other logging methods, ordinary correlation, porosity determination in carbonate reservoirs, tracer studies concerned with secondary recovery and lost circulation, location of cased off sands, identification of sulphur deposits, emergency logging, oil-water contacts, and casing leaks.
