ABSTRACT

About 1940 the attention of the industry was directed to a series of Wilcox (Eocene) oil and gas strikes in the Live Oak, Bee and Goliad Counties portion of Southwest Texas. Regional subsurface mapping of the Jackson-Yegua-Pettus horizons indicated a definite correlation between structure in these shallow markers and the deep Wilcox. Based on shallow subsurface work in Duval and McMullen Counties, a shooting option was taken on the Hagist Ranch in 1942. Seismic maps showing control for the top of Wilcox and the Middle Wilcox are presented. In addition, geologic structure maps on Wilcox Sand Zone 1 and Wilcox Sand "G" are shown so that the similarity between seismic and subsurface is readily apparent. It is believed that the Hagist Ranch Field typifies the optimum results obtainable when seismic and subsurface methods are combined and exploited to the fullest.
