Ostracoda from Basal Arkadelphia Marl Exposures Near Hope, Arkansas

Hubert C. Skinner (2)

ABSTRACT

The exposures of the basal Arkadelphia marl near Hope, Arkansas, were zonally sampled in January, 1952. All known species of Ostracoda from the basal portion of the formation, comprising twenty-eight species from twelve genera and four families are described and illustrated. Eight species are new. The ostracodal fauna of this uppermost Cretaceous formation is quite distinctive and ten species are established as guide fossils for differentiating the Arkadelphia from similar beds in subsurface samples. The Ostracoda indicate that the Arkadelphia marl may be correlated with the upper Navarro formation of Texas, the Navesink and Mount Laurel formations of New Jersey and the Monmouth formation of Delaware. The foraminiferal content of the Arkadelphia provides supporting evidence for these correlations.
