Abstract: Previous Hit3-DNext Hit Seismic Revives Kings Bayou

James C. Holiday

ABSTRACT

Shell and Union Pacific Resources have drilled seven successful gas wells in 11 attempts based on their Previous Hit3-DNext Hit seismic survey of the greater Kings Bayou area in southern Cameron Parish, Louisiana. The Previous Hit3-DNext Hit seismic data helped resolved complex structure, explained apparent stratigraphic inconsistencies, and identified several amplitude anomalies thereby defining significant exploration and development opportunities in a mature area. Newly discovered recoverable volumes of 65 BCF have been found in lower Miocene reservoirs increasing field production from 0.6 MMCFD in 1993, prior to the acquisition of the Previous Hit3-DTop survey, to 41 MMCFD. This new-found gas has revived a dying field and returned it to full production capacity.
