ABSTRACT

Too often, 3-D seismic data is underutilized by interpreters because it is treated as a series of densely spaced 2D lines. By performing a line by line or every Nth line interpretation the true value of 3-D seismic data, a three-dimensional view of the prospective area, is missing. In order to take advantage of what has been recorded and processed 3-D seismic data must be interpreted in the three-dimensional workspace to produce an accurate geologic picture.

Coherence Technology Company, Inc. (CTC) provides a highly innovative and accurate method for clearly imaging subsurface faults and stratigraphy recorded in 3-D seismic surveys.

Incorporation of Coherence Cube processing into the three-dimensional interpretation workflow increases the spatial understanding of the exploration/exploitation objectives and encourages interpreters to interpret multi-dimensionally. This paper discusses how the imaging of the structural and stratigraphic details in 3-D data volumes will help improve interpretation integrity, especially when combined with 3-D visualization techniques.
