Understanding Holographic Imaging of Seismic Data— Contrast with Signal Processing Imaging Methods

Norman S. Neidell

Abstract

Holographic seismic imaging offers at least 5 times greater resolution and 30 times more interpretive visibility than standard seismic processing can provide from both existing and newly acquired seismic data. The extended visual dynamic range color displays, unlike standard seismic presentations, provide detailed and quantitative interpretation information of lithology, structure, and stratigraphy throughout the full image volume. For these reasons, it is important to better understand such methods and how the results they offer significantly increase economic value both before and after any initial identification of possible targets.
