Successful Infill Drilling in Raja Field Causes Ten-Fold Increase in Production

M. Nahir Basuni

Abstract

The Raja field in PTSI's South Sumatra concession area has been on production since 1940 and is one of the oldest fields still active in the area. A wellbore analysis study team consisting of an experienced reservoir engineer and a production geologist completed a two month review of the field in 1976. On the basis of the team's recommendations, six wells have been drilled to date, while an estimated ten to twelve more locations are considered prospective. The six wells have all been completed as oil wells and have raised the Raja field output to over 3,000 BOPD for a ten-fold increase in production. This paper briefly describes the geology of the Raja field, its production history and the basic findings of the study team which led to the current successful infill drilling program.
