Gravel Pack Design, Performance and Evaluation: Duri Field

John M. Englehardt, Ridwan Madjid, John Gerke

Abstract

Gravel packing has been recently tested in the Duri Field in an effort to maintain both well productivity and sand control. With an active steam stimulation program of Huff and Puff and a pilot steamflood, gravel packing successfully plays a major role in obtaining good ultimate oil recovery. This paper deals with the current development of gravel packing in the Duri Field. To date, gravel packing in Duri has demonstrated several important factors toward good sand control in dealing with steam stimulation, steamflood, drilling development wells and sand control in older wells. Further, unique to gravel pack evaluation is the use of logs, e.g. sonic density and neutron logging devices, to identify top of sand and sand pack integrity. In addition, the use of non-damaging drilling fluids, quality sand and liner materials is discussed.
