Evaluating Remaining Potential in High Water Cut, Multiple Zone Completions

Arief Yunan, Scott S. Sollee, David A. Minemier

Abstract

A challenging problem facing operators of high water cut, multiple zone completions is how best to locate and isolate individual zones producing at higher water cut relative to the other completed zones. In the Minas field and other surrounding fields located in the Minas District, P.T. Caltex Pacific Indonesia (CPI) has utilized various techniques to determine the potential of individual zones in commingled completions. These techniques include:

1. Swab testing.

2. Individual zone testing using a specially designed test string consisting of a straddle packer assembly attached to the bottom of an electric submersible pump (henceforth referred to as IZT).

3. Cased hole logging using conventional production logging and carbon oxygen tools.

This paper will summarize our experience with each of the above methods. Main points addressed will be type of data obtained from each technique, data quality limitations, specific application results and relative cost.
