A Comparative Study of 3-D Previous HitNoiseNext Hit Attenuation Techniques

Daniel Wheaton, Yendri, Kusnarya

Abstract

A comparative study is made of various post stack techniques used to attenuate coherent and Previous HitrandomNext Hit Previous HitnoiseNext Hit in processing of multi-azimuth 3-D seismic surveys. Subsets of two 3-D surveys acquired in Indonesia are studied to compare the various aspects and consequences of Previous HitnoiseNext Hit attenuation techniques. Strategies for attenuating both Previous HitrandomNext Hit and coherent Previous HitnoiseNext Hit are studied. Predictive filtering in the f-x (frequency - space) domain for Previous HitrandomNext Hit Previous HitnoiseNext Hit suppression may be applied post stack as either a double two dimensional (2-D by 2-D) process (inline and crossline) or using a three dimensional predictive filtering routine (f-xy) which operates simultaneously over a group of inline and crossline seismic traces. f-k (frequency-wavenumber) filters that are designed to attenuate linear coherent Previous HitnoiseNext Hit may be applied using concatenated 2-D by 2-D filters provided that the resulting attenuation of Previous HitnoiseNext Hit is isotropic (independent of azimuth). The combination of these two techniques to suppress coherent and linear Previous HitnoiseNext Hit is evaluated. The results indicate that f-xy filtering is an extremely robust process for attenuating Previous HitrandomNext Hit Previous HitnoiseNext Hit as well as linear Previous HitnoiseNext Hit that is "non predictable" over the three - dimensional predictive space. Application of f-xy filtering as the initial post stack process has advantages over the reverse order of application (f-k prior to f-xy) when significant amounts of both coherent linear Previous HitnoiseNext Hit and Previous HitrandomNext Hit Previous HitnoiseTop are present.
