Abstract
The Carbonate Rocks of the Baturaja Formation in its Type Locality, Baturaja — South Sumatra
Abstract
The carbonate rocks of the Baturaja Formation in the Baturaja area of South Sumatra occur as bedded limestones in the lower part and massive limestones in the upper portion.
Megascopic and microscopic analyses of samples collected from fourteen measured stratigraphic sections in the type area, show that the texture of these limestones varies fromreef (boundstone) to wackestone and wacke-packstone and suggest that depositional environments range from open shoal reef, fore reef, with a transition to open basin to open littoral back reef.
The presence of a dolomitized reef core sequence as previously interpreted (Koesoemadinata 1974) was not confirmed by field observations.
