STEELMAN FIELD SOUTHEASTERN SASKATCHEWAN

J. Nesbitt, Geologist, Regina Division, Imperial Oil Limited (Producing Department).

ABSTRACT

Steelman is a stratigraphic type oil field with a developed area of over seventy square miles at the end of 1957. Although there are two producing reservoirs, the Midale has much greater lateral extent and carries over ninety percent of the reserves. This reservoir is thin and somewhat variable in quality and is characterized by comparatively high porosity and low permeability. A trap is provided at the updip truncation of the Midale at the Paleozoic unconformity. Local accumulations in the Frobisher Beds are trapped by porosity variations along minor structural trends.
