Abstract
The History and Geology of Brooken Field Haskell and Pittsburg Counties, Oklahoma.3
ABSTRACT
The Brooken gas field was discovered in 1929. Extensive development of the field, however, didn't begin until 1980 when the major producing horizon, the Middle Booch Sandstone, was discovered. Minor production from the Savanna and Hartshorne sandstones is also found at Brooken. All three formations are Des Moinesian in age. There have been 109 wells drilled at Brooken, 83 of which are productive. The field has produced 15.77 BCFG as of January, 1985.
The Middle Booch Sandstone at Brooken was deposited as a series of stacked distributary channels. These channels were part of a deltaic complex that covered most of the northwest shelf of the Arkoma basin. The Hartshorne was also deposited in a deltaic environment; however only overbank and/or innerdistributary deposits are present at Brooken. The gas at Brooken is trapped by a combination of stratigraphic and structural elements.
Knowledge gained at Brooken can be used to help explore for similar fields elsewhere in the Arkoma basin.
