Cocorp Deep Seismic Reflection Traverse Across the Southern Oklahoma Aulacogen

J. A. Brewer, R. Good, J. E. Oliver, L. D. Brown, S. Kaufman

Abstract

Consortium for Continental Reflection Profiling (COCORP) deep seismic profiles have been recorded across the Southern Oklahoma aulacogen. The County, Texas) across the Wichita Uplift and into the northern part of the Anadarko Basin (ending in Dewey County, Oklahoma, ). These data reveal new aspects of structure within the basement and sedimentary cover that require major rethinking of the evolution and style of deformation within this aulacogen, and they suggest significant new areas and concepts for hydrocarbon exploration in this region.

Three major findings are briefly described. They are: (1) An inferred Proterozoic basin lying south of the Wichita Mountains; (2) Thrusting of the Wichita Mountains over the Anadarko Basin by many kilometers; and (3) Anticlinal structures within the Anadarko Basin that are in some cases cored by blind listric thrustfaults.
